weekend recap - and Irene BS

Ive been MIA for a bit....Just as Irene was approaching, me and 16 of my girlyfreinds hightailed it to New Orleans for a bachelorette party.  That city is nuts. I drank more in 3 days than I have in the last month (and I drink a lot).
But while we were all drinking hurricaines down in NOLA - Irene was wreaking havoc at home. After some scary flight delays/cancellations, we all made it home safe, sound and hungover to deal with the aftermath.

We are still with-out of power on my street and looking like it might be that way for a while. We are dealing with the massive tree that yanked down 3 power poles and the electricity, cable, and phone from my street.  Not to mention the damage it did to our neighbors car. Between speaking to the power company, the insurance company, the city parks department, the gas company, ms utility, and everyone else, i am ready to go insane...
The picture does not due justice to the destruction, but you see the tree...and this cutie who braved her first hurricane!

Hopefully I will be done dealing with this soon and can get back to blogging. I have a few posts almost ready and waiting as soon as I can upload some pictures.  I have a 19 month photoshoot to upload and a play kitchen makeover to show off as well.
Lets hope I regain power before losing my sanity...

Friday Favorites

Here we are- Friday again.  Thanks goodness.  This week has been rough.  Im looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend with my girly.  Mr H is off at his fantasy football draft.  Its a rather big to-do with him and his boys.  I think they are nerds :)

So here are my five favorite finds this week.

This whole room is amazing.  I love the rug...the chairs...the curtains....the black doors...the chandelier...all of it.

Im into orange lately.  How awesome are these end tables? Im thinking of incorporating orange into our bedroom somehow...maybe some orange pillows and nightstands like these tables.?.?.?

I love this fan.  My kitchen needs this in a bad way.  But for the $475 price tag, my kitchen will sweat...
you can find it here
I need this rug for my master bedroom. (we are laying hard wood in there this fall- I can NOT wait)

And lastly, this DIY fire pit that is supposed to cost only $30 to make.  I call BS, but I might have Mr H give it a shot this fall anyway.  I like to keep him busy.

Big Bed

It feels like just yesterday that I was getting Ms Things nursery ready, and impatiently waiting her arrival.  Now I am getting ready to move her out of her crib and into her very own bed. sigh.

I love her nursery- LOVE...Its probably my favorite room in the house.

I still have a couple months (I hope) before the transition will take place, but I have already been planning and hunting pieces.  The one thing I knew I wanted was a Jenny Lind style bed- full size preferably.  I have been scouring Craigslist, Ebay, and some local thrift stores for months.

This weekend I found it.

pardon the messy garage
This sucker was $20 dollars at a local thrift store.  20 freaking dollars. I still cant believe it.  I havent been this excited about about a purchase in a long time. (yes, i am lame)

Obviously he needs a little TLC.  But I planned on painting the bed anyway.  Here are some painted spindle beds I have seen online.

So now comes the fun part of  coming up with a whole new room layout in LAs room...her big girl room.  (tear)

And there you have it....my very first Friday favorites.  holy alliteration....

happy weekend.

i see a red door...

...and i want to paint it black.  Not really black, more like yellow - or turquoise?  (Stones reference BTW)

I have been wanting to paint our front door for some time now.  i was set on painting it a light turquoise color, but have recently been obsessed with yellow.  i guess i shouldn't do anything until my mind is made up.  this week i am 70% yellow and 30% turquoise.

Let me start by saying the porch WILL be painted first.  I have decided on a grayish-tanish color. I cant recall the specific name of the color so grayish-tanish works for now.

When we moved in our front door was white. lame. and our shutters were a faded gray.

We decided to paint the shutters a dark charcoal color, as well as paint the front door Red.

I loved it...at the time, but I am over it now. My 2 year old attention span needs it changed immediately.   So I must decide between yellow and turquoise.  I'm thinking I might not get sick of the yellow as quick as the turquoise??  But the turquoise would be so cute?  But so would yellow? ugh.

Here are a few of my pin-spirations.

Good stuff huh? I wonder if Mr. H would let me paint yellow for a few months, and then the turquoise for a few months.  probably not...

change up

This area has been bugging me since the dining room makeover.

The white on white just was too much.  I contemplated painting the hutch another color but decided that was too much work and Im way too lazy for all that.  Plus i wanted instant results.

Eventually I want to get a buffet in here, but right now that isnt happening according to Mr H.  So i have to recycle some crap from somewhere else in the house to go there.

Then I remembered these shelves that were taking up space in the guestroom....

After they got the boot from the office turned playroom

So i dragged them into the dining room, replacing the white hutch...

The dark contrast from all the white looks good in there.  And the wood is the same finish as the wine rack and the table top.  score.

Mr. H is going to build some X wine racks in a couple of the empty cubbies

because i need more space for my wine...

5 years...

warning- sap overload...i apologize.

These pics were taken 5 years ago today.

I am a super lucky girl.  Mr H is perfect in almost every way.  I could go on and on about all the things I love about him, but I wont.  He puts up with me, thats all that matters :)

We have so much fun together and there is no one i would rather spend my time with.

He gave me this little thing and he loves her more than anything in the world and that totally ups the ante.

I'm not one to normally quote mushy crap, but I love this...

He's not perfect.  You aren't either, and the two of you will never be perfect.  But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can.  He isn't going to quote poetry, he's not thinking about you ever moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break.  Don't hurt him, don't change him, and don't expect more than he can give.  Don't analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he's not there.  Love hard when there is love to be had.  Because perfect guys don't exist, but there's always one guy that is perfect for you. (Bob Marley)

Happy 5th anniversary baby, I love you!
